Topic: Stop your child's "summer slip"!

Posted: 4/05/2013

Fall is an exciting time for your child! There's back-to-school shopping, getting involved in extracurricular activities, reuniting with friends, and so much more to look forward to. But the one thing that teachers and parents seem to dread is that inevitable "summer slip". What is the "summer slip", you ask? When children experience a lack of stimulating activity for a long stretch of time, they initially struggle to recall some of the concepts that they learned in the previous school year and fall behind. Ah yes, the "summer slip"!

Use Mad Science summer camps to put an end to the slip! Mad Science of Dallas & Fort Worth has been offering fun, educational camps for over a decade. Mad Science serves children as young as 3 all the way up to age 12 and offers both full-day and half-day camps. These camps are anything but boring! We have exciting themes to cater to every child's learning style and science interest. We offer STEM-themed camps that are so fun, children actually forget that they are learning. If your child is mystified and fascinated by astronauts, we have a camp where he or she can design and build a rocket! Students can build their own robots, become junior engineers for a day, explore the world around them using their observation skills and senses, analyze crime scenes and conduct detective work, and much more! Our philosophy is that children learn best when they are engaged in hands-on learning!

Topic: Choosing the right summer camp for your child!

Posted: 4/01/2013

As your begin to arrange your summer plans for your family, choosing the right programs for your child can be an overwhelming experience. You may want to provide them with an enriching summer experience, but on the other hand, you might not want a camp that is overly structured and restricting. After all, this is your child’s summer vacation, not an extension of the school year!

There are day camps, sleep-away camps, workshops, and much more. The selection of camps and activities are absolutely endless. So, where should you begin?

Over the years, the Mad Science of Dallas & Fort Worth team realized that pinpointing your child’s interests is always key. We all know that interests can change pretty rapidly at this age, so creating a wish-list of your child’s favorite activities is a great place to start. This could include the ideas that your child found most interesting at school that year. Was “the planets in our solar system” a major conversation topic at dinner during your child’s outer-space unit at school? Why not investigate this concept further during a hands-on summer camp?

This summer, Mad Science of Dallas & Fort Worth is offering a variety of camps, both full-day and half-day, to meet all of your summer needs. Our goal is to provide the most enriching STEM programs possible while making the planning process simple and streamlined for you. From rockets and outer space, to robot-building and forensic science, Mad Science can make your child’s summer an engaging, memorable experience.

Topic: Help your child have a great first summer camp experience!

Posted: 3/25/2013

A child’s first camp can be a stressful experience for both the parents and the camper. We’ve all been there! Even before the child attends his/her first day camp, parents may have several sleepless nights! Perhaps you toss and turn, wondering, “Will she make friends?” or “Will they treat him well?” and of course, “Will he have fun?”

So, to make sure your child has a fun camp experience, preparing for the camp and researching the specific program are very important steps. If you’re looking for a science enrichment day camp with an emphasis on STEM learning, Mad Science camps can meet your child’s summer learning needs.

Based on our experience of running STEM themed camps for over a decade, Mad Science of Dallas & Fort Worth has come up with a few guidelines to make your child’s experience a very memorable one. Follow these simple tips assembled by our experts. If you have any questions about who we are and what we are offering during the 2013 summer session, please contact our office at (972)-241-0475.

1)    Find out what kinds of camps are available in your area.

2)    Pinpoint your child’s interests and rank the camps in order of what he/she would like to do.

3)    Decide whether you and your child want a full-day or half-day camp. A full-day camp may be a great option for working parents.

4)    Encourage your child’s interests! If they are not fascinated by the subject, a full-day camp can be a very long and frustrating experience for a child.

5)    Find out the details of the camp. Here are some to think about:

-       Who are the instructors?

-       Are they well trained?

-       Are their backgrounds thoroughly checked?

-       What is the camp schedule? Weekends? Monday thru Friday?

-       How long have they been in business?

-       Are they flexible? What are the refund policies?

-       What are their dismissal policies? Again, think about safety. Will your child be sent home with just anyone? Mad Science of Dallas & Fort Worth only allows the people listed to pick up the children

-       Ask about lunch and snack policies (especially for full-day camps)

-       Ask about medical emergency protocol

-       Most importantly, ask for a general idea of the daily activities. Make sure your child will be engaged with lots of hands-on learning!
